The Cristo Rei Viewpoint offers a unique perspective over the Garajau Natural Reserve and the Funchal bay. It owes its name to the majestic statue of Christ the King, built on this site in 1927. The site features a coastal path leading to the very edge of the Ponta do Garajau cliff.

How to Get There
Located in Garajau (Caniço). Follow the signs for “Cristo Rei” from the VE1 highway. The road ends at the parking lot right by the monument.

Important to Know
- History: The statue was inaugurated 4 years before the famous Christ the Redeemer in Rio de Janeiro.
- Marine Reserve: The waters below are part of the Garajau Nature Reserve, a prime spot for diving.
- Cable Car: There is a nearby teleférico (Teleférico do Garajau) that takes you down to the pebble beach at the base of the cliff.
