Located in the São João Baptista Fort, the Castelo do Pico Viewpoint makes the most of the strategic position of this 17th-century fortification. It offers one of the best views over Funchal’s historical center, the port area, and the vast amphitheatre of houses climbing the hills.

How to Get There
The fort is a dominant landmark above Funchal’s city center. It can be reached on foot from the Marina in about 15-20 minutes (uphill) or by local bus.

- History: The fort was built to defend the city from pirate attacks. Entrance to the main terrace is usually free.
