A tourist was detained this morning after entering the runway area at Madeira Airport in an attempt to reach a departing plane. According to DIÁRIO, the 60-year-old man climbed over a security fence at one end of the airport and headed toward a Ryanair flight due to leave at 06:20 for Charleroi, Belgium. The incident took place at Cristiano Ronaldo International Airport, where surveillance systems and airport teams quickly detected the breach. He was intercepted before he could get any closer to the aircraft. When questioned by the authorities, the man said, “it the quickest way to get to the plane!” Despite the disruption, the flight to Charleroi departed at the scheduled time.
