Strong Winds Disrupt Operations at Madeira International Airport – Cristiano Ronaldo

Adverse weather conditions are causing significant disruption this afternoon at Madeira International Airport – Cristiano Ronaldo. Strong winds affecting the eastern part of the island have made landings especially difficult, according to JM. At least five aircraft have been holding for some time while crews wait for safer conditions before attempting to land. The affected flights include a GetJet Airlines Boeing 737, a Binter aircraft arriving from Gran Canaria, a Jet2 Airbus A321, another Jet2 Boeing 737, and a British Airways Airbus A321. Departures planned for the next few hours are also being affected by the same weather-related problems. An Eurowings flight was unable to land in Madeira and diverted to the Canary Islands because of the adverse conditions. Airport authorities are continuing to monitor the situation closely, and at 20:00, ANAM confirmed that flights were arriving. Passengers are also being warned that the General Strike on the 3rd of June can affect flights, so they should contact their airline before heading to the airport.
