The problem is linked to wind and unstable approach conditions, which can be especially difficult for aircraft during the final stage of landing when gusts change in strength or direction. By the beginning of the evening, several planes were still making conditioned approaches to Madeira Airport, leaving open the possibility of more delays or diversions. However, the ANAM website at 20:33 indicated that the airport was operating normally.
