Located in Funchal’s historical old town (Zona Velha), the Socorro Viewpoint overlooks points of interest such as the city’s port and the Desertas Islands. It offers a charming, sea-level perspective where the yellow stone of the old fort meets the deep blue of the Atlantic.

How to Get There
Walk to the eastern end of Funchal’s old town (Rua de Santa Maria area). The viewpoint is located on a terrace next to the Church of Socorro and the Forte de São Tiago.

- Old Town Vibes: Combine your visit with a walk through the “Painted Doors” of Rua de Santa Maria.
- Swimming: Just below the viewpoint is the Barreirinha Bathing Complex, a popular local sea-water pool.
- History: The nearby São Tiago Fort (yellow castle) is a 16th-century fortress that now houses a restaurant and a museum.
