Briefly
One of the highest points of the Madeira Archipelago, at an altitude of 1818 metres, Pico do Areeiro offers a privileged view of the Madeiran Mountain Massif. It is the most famous mountain viewpoint on the island, where you can literally stand above a sea of clouds and see the highest peaks within arm’s reach.

How to Get There
Drive from Funchal via the ER103 and then the ER202 following the signs for “Pico do Areeiro.” The road ends at the tourist complex and the radar station.

Important to Know
- Sunrise: This is the #1 spot on the island for sunrise. Be there at least 45 minutes before dawn, as parking fills up fast.
- Weather: Even in summer, temperatures can be near 0°C. A warm jacket and windbreaker are mandatory.
- Facilities: There is a cafeteria, a souvenir shop, and toilets at the site.
- Hiking: This is the starting point for the world-famous PR1 hike to Pico Ruivo.
