Located at the highest point of Madeira, 1862 metres above sea level, the Pico Ruivo Viewpoint offers a panoramic view with an incomparable amplitude. It allows you to stand above the clouds and see both the north and south coasts simultaneously, providing a true 360-degree experience of the island.

Location: Pico Ruivo Summit
Access: Only accessible by hiking (PR 1.2 from Achada do Teixeira is the shortest route).
Time: 1.5 – 2 hours (hike from parking)
Difficulty: Moderate (due to the high-altitude hike)
Parking: Achada do Teixeira Parking Lot
Best season: All year round (Sunrise and Sunset are spectacular)
How to Get There
Drive to Achada do Teixeira (Santana). From the parking lot, follow the PR 1.2 trail for 2.8 km to reach the summit where the viewpoint platforms are located.

Important to Know
- Weather: It can be 10-15 degrees colder here than at sea level. Always bring a windbreaker or warm layer.
Booking
Since 2025, mandatory online booking for PR 1.2 is required via SIMplifica.
Mountain Hut: There is a shelter (Casa de Abrigo) just below the peak where you can rest and find toilets.
