The Judiciary Police’s Criminal Investigation Department in Madeira arrested a 36-year-old foreign national yesterday morning in the municipality of Santa Cruz. The man was wanted on an international warrant issued by Argentine authorities and supported by an Interpol Red Notice. The operation was carried out under international police cooperation and involved the Judiciary Police’s Criminal Information Unit as well as multiple Interpol teams. Argentine authorities say the suspect belongs to an international criminal group linked to property crimes, including fraud and extortion. Those offences were allegedly committed mostly online, according to the information provided by Argentine authorities. The arrest brought an end to the activities of a fugitive who had been wanted for criminal proceedings in that South American nation. He will now be brought before the Lisbon Court of Appeal for detention validation and the start of the extradition process.
