Machico Suspect Sent to Prison After Mother’s Killing

The man accused in the Machico killing has been discharged from the Casa de Saúde São João de Deus and is now in detention. He had been hospitalised there for specialised monitoring after his arrest. According to DIÁRIO, the Judiciary Police found him on the 27th of March at his mother’s home after he had spent four days on the run. During that period, officers believed he might have taken his own life, as he managed to avoid both dogs and drones. The suspect has a history of hospitalisation for mental health reasons and was later located and detained. He was admitted to the Casa de Saúde São João de Deus on the 28th of March for psychiatric evaluation, following the arrest. The case began on the 23rd of March, when he allegedly killed his mother inside a residence in the parish of Água de Pena, in the municipality of Machico.
