Tourist Family Rescued After Night in Boaventura Mountains

A search and rescue operation that involved multiple teams came to an end this morning in the mountains of Boaventura, São Vicente. The missing group was a tourist couple, a man aged approximately 55 years old and a woman in her 40s, together with a 5-year-old child. They had reportedly been lost since yesterday, prompting an overnight response from the Volunteer Firefighters of São Vicente and Porto Moniz, the Forest Police and the GNR. When those efforts did not locate the family, extra support was brought in from the Madeiran Volunteers, along with the helicopter and crew of the Regional Civil Protection Service. A dozen operatives from the Madeiran Volunteer Firefighters’ rescue team also joined the operation. The family was eventually found unharmed.
