São Roque Beach takes up the larger portion of the Machico bay. While Machico is famous for its imported golden sand, this natural pebble section offers a more traditional Madeiran feel with excellent support facilities. It is a spacious and well-maintained area for those who prefer crystal-clear water over sand.

How to Get There
Located in the heart of Machico. Just walk along the main promenade (Promenade de Machico) towards the eastern side of the bay, opposite the sandy beach.

Important to Know
- Facilities: It has a first-aid station, showers, and several bars and restaurants right on the waterfront.
- The Bay: Because it’s located in a deep bay, the water here is often much calmer than on the open coast.
- Sand vs. Pebble: You can easily switch between the sand beach and the pebble beach in a 5-minute walk.
