The number of Portuguese and Portuguese descendants killed in Wednesday’s earthquakes in Venezuela has increased to 68, according to the latest balance released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MNE). Of those dead, 59 were also Venezuelan nationals, and the ministry said the victims include 10 children and 58 adults. The previous balance had listed 60 Portuguese and Portuguese descendants among the fatalities from the double earthquake that struck Venezuela on the 24th. Official figures now put the overall death toll at 1,943, with 10,571 injured. Authorities also say more than 15,000 people are homeless, while the President of the parliament, Jorge Rodríguez, had earlier updated the toll to 1,719 dead and 5,034 injured. Since rescue operations began, 6,461 people have been rescued.
