ANA to Expand Fuel Storage Capacity at Madeira Airport

ANA – VINCI Airports plans to invest around €3 million in enlarging the aviation fuel storage facilities at Madeira Airport, working together with Exolum. The project will raise storage capacity from 560 cubic metres to 1,300 cubic metres by 2029. Exolum has already taken over the operation and management of the fuel storage and distribution facilities, along with the airport’s hydrant network, under an initial seven-year contract that may be extended to nine years. ANA said the upgrade is meant to improve the reliability and responsiveness of infrastructure that is vital to the airport’s operation. The work will be completed in several stages, including new storage tanks, upgrades to existing facilities and the installation of advanced control and safety systems. At present, the fuel park includes six horizontal tanks and a hydrant network of more than one kilometre with 32 refuelling points, and the expansion could raise operational autonomy to five days. The project is also expected to strengthen supply resilience and support the future introduction of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) in the Autonomous Region of Madeira.
