Paulo Cafôfo has presented a draft resolution calling on the Government of the Republic to ensure that the works at Porto Santo airport are completed. He argues that the commitments tied to the airport cannot keep being delayed, and says the concessionaire, ANA, integrated into the VINCI universe, must be held to its obligations. Cafôfo also says the Government of the Republic, as the granting entity, has a duty to supervise, demand, and monitor the concession. He adds that airport taxes at the airports of Madeira and Porto Santo increase costs for passengers and weaken the Region’s competitiveness, especially in an outermost island territory where air travel is essential. The PS rejects the idea that ANA’s profits can rise while fee revenue is not translated into investment in airport infrastructure. Cafôfo says the works at Porto Airport Santo should form part of a stronger regional response to the limitations of Madeira Airport, rather than relying on improvised solutions. He insists that a proper contingency plan must include a fast maritime link between Porto Santo and Caniçal, along with passenger assistance, baggage handling, accommodation when needed, and coordination among the Government of the Republic, ANAC, ANA/VINCI, the Regional Government, and other relevant entities.
