The President of PS-Madeira, Célia Pessegueiro, criticised the Regional Government today for what she said was a repeated failure to keep promises made to the people of Madeira. Speaking after a meeting of the party’s Political Committee, she focused on the new hospital project and the fact that the tender for the third phase was left without any bidders. She called on the Regional Government to publicly explain which difficulties put forward by companies prevented them from moving ahead with the project. Célia Pessegueiro said the hospital is vital for the Region and warned that the lack of bidders will cause yet another delay. She recalled that the infrastructure was first promised for 2024 and later pushed back to 2029, asking when Madeira will finally have its hospital. She also accused the Regional Government of poor management of projects financed through the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR), citing the loss of more than half of the care home beds originally announced. In her view, the Executive has failed to invest in the priority areas it presented and has not been transparent about the PTRR, including the 80 measures it said it submitted, of which only the extension of Pontinha and the completion of the North Coast road project have been made public.
