The Food Bank Against Hunger of Madeira collected 28.8 tonnes of food during its 27th collection campaign on the 30th and 31st of May. The drive took place in 29 supermarkets across the Region and will support low-income households over the next six months. Distribution will be carried out through more than 50 partner institutions. The organisation said the total represents an 8.5% decrease compared with the same period last year. It also thanked the Madeirans for their solidarity, along with more than 800 volunteers and 70 entities that helped make the operation possible. The campaign is still running until the 7th of June through the Ajuda Vale initiative, which lets shoppers buy product vouchers at supermarket checkouts. Donations can also still be made through the online campaign.
