The civic movement ‘It is possible to prevent the destruction of the seawall’ is organizing a public debate on the “Environmental Compliance Report of the Execution Project (RECAPE).” The event will be held on Monday, the 4th of May, at 20:00 via Zoom. The group says the discussion is meant to explain what is at stake in the planned “Curral das Freiras Cable Car System.” It also wants to encourage civic participation in the public consultation on environmental impacts. A third goal is to gather and organize relevant information that may help the Environmental Impact Assessment of the project. The movement argues that the 15-day public discussion period set by the Regional Government of Madeira through the Regional Directorate for the Environment and the Sea is too short. It says this approach does not allow for meaningful citizen involvement in the consultation process.
