ARAE Inspection Finds Four Offences at Farmers’ Market

On the 15th of May, the Regional Authority for Economic Activities (ARAE) carried out an inspection at the Farmers’ Market as part of Operation Real Value. The action was part of its consumer protection work and focused on practices that could affect buyers, including price speculation and the correct display of sale prices. Inspectors identified four administrative offences related to the use of the complaints book system. They also checked product weights and the prices being charged to customers, and no irregularities were found in either area. ARAE reviewed compliance with metrological controls and mandatory consumer information, including the country of origin of fruit on sale, and detected no infringements. The operation involved eight ARAE inspectors who examined 30 stalls, stands, and shops within the market. The authority said the inspection also aimed to remind traders of the need to follow current legislation, while noting that prices may generally be set freely unless specific legal rules apply, provided they are clearly displayed.
