Elements of the Local Command of the Maritime Police of Funchal, working with ANACOM (National Communications Authority), carried out a joint inspection operation on the island of Madeira. The action took place between the 5th and 7th of May and focused on coastal stations and different types of ships and vessels. Inspectors checked whether radiocommunication equipment met the legal safety and licensing standards in force. The operation was also intended to support the safety of human life at sea and the reliability of maritime communications. In total, 14 vessels and two coastal stations were inspected during the operation. Irregularities were found in a recreational boat, two container ships, and smaller ships, as well as a maritime-tourist vessel. The Maritime Police said that 12 elements of the local command and 12 ANACOM inspectors took part in the effort to strengthen monitoring of the national maritime space and ensure compliance with the required technical standards for safe navigation.
