Extending a residence permit through AIMA – is it actually possible to make an appointment on your own?

We’ve been living in Funchal since the winter, and it’s almost time to renew our D7 residence card. The situation with booking an appointment at AIMA is a mess: slots appear and disappear, and the booking doesn’t get confirmed. Those of you who renewed this year — did you grab a slot yourselves or go through a lawyer? And how long was it from submitting the application to receiving the new card? I’m curious just to have a reference point.

Hi :waving_hand: I’m ready to share my biggest secret how I got an appointment with AIMA. But my situation was a bit different than yours. Anyway, here’s my biggest secret:

I went to Loja do Cidadão, the lady in the counter 4 gave me an appointment with AIMA. At the entrance take the ticket number 4 and go there.

I’ll also add that the best option is to go there in person. To Loja. There they’ll give you a clear answer. Their communication in English is at a good level.

Thanks for the tip — no one had mentioned counter number 4 to me before. Your situation was a bit different, so let me clarify: for renewing a resident card under the D7, do they also give you an appointment at counter 4? If yes, I’ll come right at opening time to make sure I get in.
