The Achadas da Cruz Viewpoint gives visitors the chance to peacefully contemplate Calhau das Achadas, where the rocky escarpment shelters a peaceful ‘fajã’. It is world-famous for its cable car, which is one of the steepest in Europe, dropping almost vertically down to the sea level.

How to Get There
Located on the far western side of Madeira. Follow the signs for “Teleférico” from the main road in the village of Achadas da Cruz.

Important to Know
- The Cable Car: The ride is thrilling and not recommended for those with severe vertigo. It is used by local farmers to access their land.
- The Fajã: At the bottom, there is a beautiful and quiet coastal path through small traditional farmhouses and vineyards.
- Seclusion: This is one of the most authentic and less-crowded spots on the island, offering a sense of total isolation.
