A man of Russian or Ukrainian nationality is suspected of carrying out several thefts in commercial establishments in Funchal. The scheme has reportedly already fooled multiple merchants in the city, as well as others in different places. This morning, in the Carmo and Bom Jesus area, in the heart of Funchal, a reader and shop owner sent the JM newsroom a photograph showing the presumed perpetrator. Witnesses told the newspaper that the suspect sometimes wears a cap and sometimes appears bareheaded. Some merchants believe he puts on the cap when entering stores in an effort to make identification harder. JM also found that the PSP has already circulated the suspect’s image to different police units. Even so, the police can only arrest him if a formal complaint is filed or if he is caught in the act. There is still no information about the man or whether he has been questioned by the authorities.
