Strong winds are once again affecting air traffic at Madeira International Airport, leading to cancellations and diversions. By early this afternoon, 13 flights had been cancelled, including seven arrivals and six departures, as gusty conditions continued to make approaches and landings difficult. Several aircraft were also redirected to other airports because of the weather. Among the diverted flights were EW Discover’s 4Y702 from Frankfurt, scheduled to arrive at 2:45 pm, and TUIFly’s X3 2830 from Hannover, which was due at 2:55 pm. Meteorological data showed that the strongest gust reached 81 km/h this morning. The disruption highlights how quickly wind conditions can affect operations at the airport.
