The restored Quinta do Serrado was officially inaugurated in Câmara de Lobos at a ceremony attended by Madeira’s President, Miguel Albuquerque, the Mayor of Câmara de Lobos and dozens of invited guests. Owner Ireneusz Migas said he first came to Madeira as a tourist around ten years ago and was inspired by the island’s scenery to return and invest in the estate. He explained that he spent almost a year looking for a property where he could create a vineyard before finding Quinta do Serrado. Migas said that while others saw ageing buildings, some in disrepair, and land covered by banana plantations, he saw the site’s historic value and winemaking past. He noted that the property includes a traditional manor house, a historic chapel and signs of a long-standing wine heritage. Although the removal of the banana plantation surprised some residents, he said the project was never meant to be only commercial, but to restore the vineyard and protect the estate’s identity. Migas added that he hopes Quinta do Serrado will become a place where visitors can experience Madeira’s scenery, history, culture and wine traditions, as part of wider efforts to preserve the island’s wine heritage.
