Madeira will stay under a yellow ‘hot weather’ warning until Friday, according to the Portuguese Institute of Atmosphere and Sea (IPMA). The alert applies to the north and south coasts, as well as the mountainous regions of the island of Madeira. It is in force between 09:00 on Thursday and Saturday, the 4th of July. From 00:00 on Friday to 12:00 on Saturday, the Regions mountainous areas will be under an orange hot weather warning. The warning has been issued because of persistent high maximum temperatures. Authorities are urging special care for vulnerable groups, including children, the elderly, and people with chronic diseases. People are also advised to drink enough water, avoid long periods in the sun during the hottest hours, and stay in cool and airy places.
