Madeira Considers Renewable Gases as a New Energy Option

Conceição Lucas, chairman of the board of directors of Sonorgas, said Madeira has strong potential to invest in renewable gases for energy production. She described this as a clean energy source that would complement the renewable energies and electricity grid already in place in the Region. Lucas also said the company is available to study how this renewable source could be implemented on the island. Speaking to journalists, the President of the Regional Government acknowledged the possibility and said Madeira could become a pilot region in this area. He added, however, that the idea still needs to be studied carefully before any decision is made. The comments were made during the conference, ‘The importance of renewable gases in the energy transition – gas as an engine of Regional development.’ The event is taking place at the Electricity Museum – Casa da Luz.
