Madeira Bus App Developer Talks About Building a Better Way to Navigate the Island

Madeira Bus is a solo project created by Brian to make public transport on Madeira easier for both residents and visitors. He lived in Madeira for about a year, grew fond of the island, and first came up with the idea around 6 months ago while looking for a useful project to build. Brian said his own experience with buses, especially outside Funchal, showed him how confusing travel on the island could be. He explained that the app is meant to help users quickly understand how to get from one place to another with less stress and confusion. At the moment, the app works as a pocket guide with a route planner, and Brian is trying to cover the whole island rather than only the most obvious routes. He is using publicly available schedules, checking bus stops, and contacting the government about direct data access for operators like Rodoeste and CAM so the information can stay accurate. Brian also said the next version, which he hopes will reach the App Store and Play Store this month, will include a map and tools for users to move, remove, and add bus stops. User feedback has been mixed, but he says he is glad people are trying the app and hopes to keep improving it despite working on it only in his free time.
