One thing we worried about every summer was simple: how do you keep children active, learning, and happy while parents are working?
We have two sons (6 and 10 years old), and 2025 (1st time) we decided to try ATL.
July – Helen Doron ATL
Our boys spent the whole month at the Helen Doron English ATL, and it turned out to be one of the best decisions we made.
It’s much more than just childcare. The program includes:
- English language practice in a natural environment;
- Activities that develop thinking, communication and problem-solving skills;
- Creative games and group activities;
- Sports and outdoor play;
- Trips to parks, the beach and swimming pools.
Lunch is included.
The schedule is very convenient for working parents:
9:00 AM – 6:00 PM
The kids came home happy every day, made new friends, stayed active, and spent far less time in front of screens.
The price was also surprisingly reasonable:
€90 per child per week (2026).
August – Clube Naval ATL
For August, we’ve enrolled them in Clube Naval’s ATL.
This program is much more focused on outdoor activities and sports. Depending on the schedule, children usually enjoy activities such as:
- Swimming and water-based activities;
- Team sports and outdoor games;
- Beach activities;
- Excursions and recreational outings;
- Group challenges and active play.
It also runs from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM, making it another great option for working families.
The price in 2026 is €100 per child per week.
For us, it’s been a win-win.
The kids are happy, active, learning new things and making friends.
Parents can work knowing their children are having a great day in a safe environment.
In 2026 we just repeated the same thing!
Have you used any ATL programs on Madeira?
Share your recommendations in the comments — it would be great to build a list of good options for other parents.
