Chinese Pharmaceutical Firm Eyes Madeira as Europe Gateway

A pharmaceutical company ranked among the world’s 500 largest corporations has shown interest in using Madeira as a gateway to the European market after the Region’s official mission to China. The announcement was made by Invest Madeira, which is part of the Regional Secretariat for the Economy, as it assessed the results of the visit to Macau, Hengqin and Hong Kong. The delegation was headed by the Regional Secretary for the Economy and President of Invest Madeira, José Manuel Rodrigues. Invest Madeira’s Executive Director, Filipa Ferreira, said one of the main aims of the mission was to present Madeira as a base for Chinese companies seeking to expand into Europe. She explained that meetings with companies and startups showed strong interest in Madeira as a business-friendly platform, especially through the International Business Centre of Madeira. Ferreira also said a major pharmaceutical company that does not currently export to Europe is now considering doing so through Madeira. The mission also supported the internationalisation of Madeiran businesses, including an invitation for Invest Madeira to join the 929 Challenge and the signing of three cooperation agreements with organisations linked to European, Chinese and Portuguese-speaking markets.
