ADN Warns of Aedes aegypti Risk at Santa Luzia Garden

The DNA – Madeira party has raised alarm over the spread of the Aedes aegypti mosquito in the Santa Luzia Garden, in Funchal. In a press statement, the party’s regional coordinator, Miguel Pita, said the space is in a state of abandonment and neglect regarding gardening and cleaning. He also pointed to stagnant and smelly water in a lake, which the party says creates conditions that encourage mosquitoes. ADN said it is worried about diseases spread by this vector and recalled the dengue fever outbreak registered in the Region in 2012. The party argued that the entities responsible for managing public spaces should do more to prevent such risks. It also criticized what it described as an irresponsible response by regional authorities, saying prevention must be treated as a priority to avoid future outbreaks. ADN added that the garden is used by families, children, and pets, making its current condition a serious public health concern.
