Pools of volcanic origin, surrounded by a unique ocean landscape. Poças das Lesmas are widely considered the most photogenic natural pools on Madeira, featuring clear turquoise water nestled within dark, jagged lava formations at the base of towering green cliffs.

How to find
Located on the northern edge of Seixal. Drive toward the “Laje” beach area and follow the signs for “Piscinas Naturais” or “Poças das Lesmas.”

Important to know:

  • The Arch: Look for the natural rock arch over the water — it’s the most iconic photography spot in the pools.

  • Safety: The pools are natural and unmonitored. Be extremely careful during high tide, as waves can wash over the rocks unexpectedly.

  • Facilities: There is a small seasonal bar and basic showers at the entrance of the path.
