The re-edition of the guidebooks for the Convent of Santa Clara, the Cathedral of Funchal, and the Chapel of Corpo Santo was presented on Tuesday at the Convent of Santa Clara. Eduardo Jesus, the Regional Secretary for Tourism, Environment, and Culture, said the publications form part of the Regional Government’s wider effort to preserve and promote Madeira’s religious heritage. He stressed that heritage conservation has been a major priority for the regional executive over the past decade, with many interventions carried out at religious monuments across Madeira. Jesus also said that protecting these sites must be matched by clear public communication about their historical and artistic value. The updated guides include revised text and new photography, and the Convent of Santa Clara edition is now available in French and German. He added that restoration work at the Cathedral of Funchal and the Convent of Santa Clara helped expand scholarly knowledge, which has now been incorporated into the new editions. The collection is intended as a cultural itinerary through churches, convents, and chapels in several municipalities, and the reprints were produced in response to strong demand after previous editions sold out.
