PSP Investigates Serious Hit-and-Run in Ribeira Brava

The Public Security Police (PSP) have opened an investigation after a serious hit-and-run in the municipality of Ribeira Brava late yesterday afternoon. A nine-year-old child and her mother were walking together when a vehicle struck them both and the driver fled without stopping to help. The mother was later taken to a health centre for a precautionary evaluation, while the child suffered serious injuries. Emergency services, including the PSP and the Volunteer Firefighters of Ribeira Brava and Ponta do Sol, were sent to the scene immediately. Before the transfer was completed, a bystander transported the child to the local health centre. After being assessed at the Ribeira Brava Health Centre, she was taken by a Portuguese Red Cross (CVP) ambulance to the Paediatric Emergency Service at Dr. Nélio Mendonça Hospital in Funchal. Medical reports say she has suspected head trauma, along with injuries to the pelvis and lower limbs, and she remains in a serious condition. The PSP’s road accident investigation team is working to identify and locate the driver, and anyone with information is being asked to contact the local authorities immediately.
