What to Bring
- Hiking boots with excellent grip (the trail is often wet and slippery)
- Trekking poles (recommended for the steep sections)
- Water
- Rain jacket (Fanal is famous for its sudden fog and drizzle)
Key Points
- The Terrain: Unlike the flat levadas, this path is rocky and uneven with natural steps formed by roots and stones.
- Strategic Link: This trail allows you to return to Fanal from the Levada dos Cedros without having to walk along the main road.
- Solitude: You are very likely to be completely alone on this section, even when Fanal is busy.
- Cows: Be prepared to meet free-roaming Madeira cows along the path; simply give them space to pass.
