The SIMplifica portal has already run out of places for the Pico do Areeiro to Pico Ruivo hike on the first two weekends of May. According to the booking system screenshot taken at 20:05 on the 29th of April, the first available afternoon slots for non-residents are on the 15th, 16th, and 17th of May. Tourists who want a morning slot will need to wait until the 30th of May. Residents are not currently subject to any restrictions. The classified route PR 1 – Vereda do Areeiro, which connects to Pico Ruivo, reopens from May 1st after being closed from Pedra Rija since the August 2024 fire. Access to the full trail will only be possible on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday for now, because improvement works will take place from Monday to Thursday. The new ticket price is 10.50 euros, while those visiting only the Pedra Rija viewpoint will pay 4.50 euros.
