Pedro Rodrigues said there are no immediate plans to raise electricity prices in Madeira despite the continued rise in oil prices. The Regional Secretary for Equipment and Infrastructure, who oversees the Madeira Electricity Company, pointed to the region’s investment in renewable energy as a key factor behind this stability. He noted that in the first quarter of the year, renewable sources supplied 55% of energy production, which he described as a record figure. According to Rodrigues, this reduces Madeira’s dependence on fossil fuels and makes it less vulnerable to changes in international prices. He also reminded journalists that electricity tariffs are regulated by the Energy Services Regulatory Authority (ERSE). He said recent increases have remained below the inflation rate, and that no tariff rise is planned for 2026. Rodrigues added that the price has already been set and that it is too early to discuss any future changes.
