Madeira PRID Grant Limits Raised for Homeowners

Homeowners in Madeira can now receive much higher financial support under changes to the Regional Government’s Property Recovery Programme (PRID), which were published today in the Official Journal of the Autonomous Region of Madeira (JORAM). The maximum grant for standard rehabilitation, repair, improvement and adaptation works has increased from €20,000 to €35,000, a 75% rise. For larger projects linked to storms, natural disasters, fires or other catastrophic events, support has been lifted from €50,000 to €70,000, provided the need is properly justified. The Regional Secretariat for Equipment and Infrastructures said the updated rules also raise the household income thresholds used to assess applications, which should allow more families to qualify. The application process has been simplified, and PRID funding may now be combined with other public housing or energy-efficiency grants, as long as the same work is not paid for twice. PRID is run by IHM – Investimentos Habitacionais da Madeira under the supervision of the Regional Secretariat for Equipment and Infrastructures, and it helps restore degraded homes used as permanent residences. The Regional Government said about 500 families have benefited since the programme began, with public investment averaging around €1 million per year, and officials expect the new limits to increase demand and help more households. Applications are open all year and can be submitted online or in person at IHM’s headquarters, with eligibility limited to residents in the Autonomous Region of Madeira who are owner, co-owner or usufructuary of an urban property needing rehabilitation.
