A joint ordinance published in the Official Journal of the Autonomous Region of Madeira (JORAM) has authorised spending of €2,697,947.29 on festive lighting for the Christmas, New Year and Carnival celebrations over the next two years. The funding is shared between the Regional Secretariat for Tourism, Environment and Culture and the Regional Secretariat of Finance. It covers decorative lighting for the 2026/2027 and 2027/2028 Christmas and New Year festivities, as well as the Regional Christmas Trade initiatives in 2026 and 2027. The same allocation also extends to the 2027 and 2028 Carnival celebrations across the Autonomous Region of Madeira. The authorised expenditure includes electrical connections, the assembly and dismantling of decorative lighting, and ongoing maintenance. It also provides for all associated infrastructure needed to support the festive displays.
