JPP Criticises Repeated Delays in São Jorge Nursing Home Plan

Paulo Alves has recalled the many promises made over recent years about renovation works at the São Jorge Basic School – Cardinal D. Teodósio de Gouveia. The abandoned building was meant to be transformed into a Senior Citizen Home after the school, inaugurated in 2010, operated for nine years before closing. Juntos Pelo Povo has now submitted a draft resolution describing the situation as a “sad story of advances and setbacks, promises and more promises, at the whim of electoral acts.” The party says the project has been repeatedly announced but never completed, with each new commitment followed by another delay. According to the text, the President of the Regional Government had promised the site would become a nursing home. Miguel Albuquerque has now said the São Jorge home project will be “relaunched,” which, in the view of the JPP deputy, means starting again from the beginning. The article presents the case as another example of unfulfilled electoral pledges surrounding a much-needed care facility.
