CTT Expands Madeira Deliveries to Restore Normal Service

CTT – Correios de Portugal is increasing postal delivery capacity across the Autonomous Region of Madeira after weeks of disruption. In a written response to DIÁRIO, the company said its recovery plan will raise distribution capacity by 25% through extra staff, a larger vehicle fleet and more delivery routes. The operator is also reorganising internal operations and widening alternative parcel collection options through the Locky automated locker network and partner collection points. CTT said it plans to grow the Locky network to 50 lockers by adding 30 new units across the Region. Priority is being given to critical correspondence, including pension vouchers, while the company says the first measures are already producing a gradual improvement in service. Recruitment of additional staff is continuing, with CTT describing workforce reinforcement as essential to restoring normal operations. The announcement follows numerous complaints to DIÁRIO from residents in several Madeiran municipalities about major delays in letters and parcels, with some items dated May and June only now arriving. CTT said the problems are linked to limited air and sea transport capacity between mainland Portugal and Madeira, as well as a shortage of available workers that has slowed the clearing of the backlog.
