Child Poisoned After Eating Gummies in Funchal Apartment

A child spent three days in a coma at the Dr. Nélio Mendonça Hospital, in Funchal, after eating gummies that allegedly contained illicit substances. The products had been taken home by her mother, who works as a cleaner in a local accommodation (AL) property. According to the report, the gummies were left in the room by a foreign customer and were collected by the mother during cleaning, without her knowing what they might contain. After the child ate them, she was taken to the pediatric emergency department with symptoms of drug poisoning. The packaging suggested the presence of a cannabis-derived substance, although later analysis cast doubt on whether the contents were actually gummies. The case is now being investigated by the authorities, who are trying to establish the origin and composition of the substances. The girl is now free from danger, and Marketplace Apartments by Storytellers said it regretted the incident and is reassessing its procedures while cooperating with the authorities.
