The CDU has accused the Regional Government and the municipalities involved of moving forward with the proposed cable car between Curral das Freiras and Jardim da Serra without properly dealing with transport, parking and sustainability issues. Its criticism is based on a technical opinion from engineering consultancy EDICARTE, which the party says points to several weaknesses in the project. The coalition says the report estimates about 650 passengers a day, a level it believes would add pressure to the current road network and parking areas near the stations. It also argues that the plan lacks an integrated approach to traffic management, parking demand and public transport links, which could create congestion and tensions between visitors and residents. The CDU further warns that many users are expected to arrive by tourist coach, increasing pressure on infrastructure and potentially leaving ticket holders without parking while local spaces are taken by tourist vehicles. It also highlights access problems in Boca da Corrida and the Paredão area, where narrow roads and informal roadside parking already cause difficulties, and says the report cautions against creating “new Arieiros.” The coalition adds that the opinion raises doubts about financial viability, environmental and landscape impacts, licensing complexity and public acceptance, and it insists the PSD/CDS Regional Government should have resolved these matters before advancing the project.
