António José Seguro Condemns Attack on Donald Trump

António José Seguro, the Portuguese head of state, today expressed solidarity with US President Donald Trump after a shooting incident in Washington. In a note published on the official website of the Presidency of the Republic, he said that violence has no place in democracy. He added that any attack against democratic institutions or freedom of the press deserves strong condemnation. The statement was released after Donald Trump was removed from the annual dinner of the White House Correspondents’ Association on Saturday night. The note, titled “President of the Republic condemns attack in the United States and expresses solidarity with his US counterpart,” also extended solidarity to the other participants at that dinner. Luís Montenegro also reacted on X, writing that he strongly condemns the attempted attack against the President of the United States of America, Donald Trump. He said that democracy and those who defend it cannot tolerate or compromise with political violence.
