Almirante Reis Outdoor Gym Reopens After €120,000 Refurbishment

The Almirante Reis Outdoor Gym in Funchal reopened to the public today at 10:00 after refurbishment works by the Funchal City Council costing around €120,000. The upgrade included a full replacement of the equipment and the installation of new technical sports flooring made for outdoor use. According to the council, these changes are intended to improve safety, accessibility, and comfort for users. At the reopening, Funchal Mayor Jorge Carvalho said the facility now offers a better range of equipment and a more suitable surface for sport. He also noted that more than 1,500 people use the space each month, showing its strong popularity with residents and visitors. The gym is open to everyone and is part of the municipality’s plan to promote free and accessible physical activity. Jorge Carvalho added that the council plans to keep refurbishing similar public spaces under its responsibility, with possible future work being assessed for the Lido area.
